>> in the news this morning, november 18th," police search for sue suspects who ran awant after a man was shot and killed in menlo park. and another storm brings more rain to the bay area. good morning, everyone. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with a first quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning, everyone. from our roof camera it's 53 degrees downtown and dry. live doppler 7hg right now shows it really is dry across the entire bay area. it quickly moved through overnight and what is left is a few showers north of vacaville and east of clear lake this morning. so we are going to talk about a little built of fog in santa rosa where temperatures have dropped into the lower 40s. elsewhere low 50s from san jose, oakland and san francisco. just an isolated shower this morning. otherwise we will see partial

upper afternoon clearing, and by tonight we will see more clouds and more rain before thanksgiving. yes, i'll show you when coming up. all right. with more showers expected, people would live in areas prone to flooding and mudslides are watching the weather pretty nervously. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard checked on those areas during last night's heavy rain. >> the rain began falling in the north bay after 6:00 p.m. gettingth attention of the larkspur neighbor sheila and test -- tess, who live in a mobile home park that has flooded in the past. >> homes have been damaged and lost cars and i lost a bunch. christmas deck a rations once but that's the worst it's been. >> there's nothing you can do. it's kind of a helpless feeling. >> park residents are ready for rain and high water. lots of sandbags are on standby

just in case. >> this is what happens when high tide means rain run off. 101 and highway 1 in mill valley was flooded early saturday. business owners were ready with sandbags to keep the water away, and it worked. by night fall a new downpour sent folks running for their cars or anyplace dry. in san francisco, the city rain made driving on 19th avenue a bit of a challenge. >> here in daly city, so far so good. nearly two city blocks of these hay bales are still reinforcing hillside park. scene of tuesday's mudslide and water main break. city crews are creeping watch on all the flood that flowed from the hilltop, now covered in netting and way. neighbors below say crews have done a good job. >> they were very good and nice. because they protect the community. >> no one was hurt in tuesday's mudslide but folks did lose some

cars. officials from daly city's water department say that hillside will the monitored all weekend long for any changes but so far it continues to hold. in milbank, apc7 news. >> the cold weather caused major problems for athletes near sacramento. yesterday dozens were injured in the spartan race. it's sort ever an obstacle course event. most of the injuries were due to cold and possible hypothermia. it was so bad eight fire engines and seven medical units responded. >> they got overwhelmed. we got reports one time they had seven patience in difficulty to breathing to hypothermia with 30 more in the field they couldn't get to or get to a location to help. >> most were similarly warmed up and sent home. there is were transported to the hospital. fire officials say many simply came unprepared for the cold weather. in world news, rocket fire continues this morning in the gaza strip even as egypt tries

dropping. rally was peaceful. more demonstrations are expected today and tomorrow. some local families are working to find a common solution. abc7 news reporter shows how bay area jews and palestinians are getting together to work toward peace. >> escalating violence in gaza has prevented her from getting any rest in the last few days. >> if i was there, i would be sleeping just living normally because i'm not feeling the guilt of being away from what they are going through there. >> she's been constantly connect today her palestinian friends and family in gaza through twitter updates and facebook posts. but it's her jewish friends here in the bay area she's turning to for support. >> this is my refuge. i was having days in which i was crying, feeling angry. >> she's part of a group that meets every month in san mateo crow. it's made up of jews and palestinians. in the conflict they will likely not even talk to each other.

but hear talking and listening is the whole point. >> the one thing that can dignify both people is to listen to each other. >> lin and his wife, libby, have hosted hundreds of meetings in their living room over the last 20 years. they want to make connections with palestinians in the bayer and their hope is to export these conversations. >> there are things deposits can do like sign treaties, and there are things that the people can do who are free from government, and that's building relationships. >> over the years they have organized summits and camping trips in yosemite where israeli and palestinian families had to spend days together. incidentally, participants in one of those camping events demonstrated in bethlehem for the violence to stop. through dialogue they hope to make things change, even if it takes a while. >> it's a slow process. it's like a republican he will in a big, big ocean but in time that ripple will get the result. >> and their hope is that people

on both sides of the connect zone will begin pushing their leaders for a peaceful solution and soon. >> abc7 news. this morning menlo park homicide investigators are looking for two suspects who ran from the scene of a fatal shooting last night. people living near highways 101 and 84 called 911 around 6:30 to report several gunshots in the neighborhood. menlo park police arrived to find a 40-year-old man wounded on 3900 block of ivy drive. he died at the scene. they say he is not from menlo park but they aren't releasing any other details about him. witnesses say two men they describe as tall, wearing took hooded sweatshirts, ran west on modock avenue. we will have more in a live report from menlo park in about 30 minutes. san jose police have released the name of the officer credited with saving another officer's life in a gun battle.

it happened friday night only tully road, two robbery suspects opened fire on an officer in his patrol car who was pursuing him. the officer in the car was a sitting duck, officers said. brute bar that will my, a five year veteran of the force, returned fire when he got on the scene. one suspect was injured and arrested. the other is still on the lose. the officer in the car was slightly injured. students at vallejo high school were among the community members who came to honor police officer jim capoot at city hall yesterday one year after his death in the line of duty. >> officer capoot was killed after a high-speed chase and foot pursuit of a bank robbery suspect. he coached the girl's basketball team at vallejo high and was remembered for his involvement in the local community. he is survived by his wife and

three daughters. >> just loved come to work every day. he loved his girls at vallejo high school. he talk about them like they were his own girls. jim loved his community. he loved working here. and i want to thank you all for loving him back. >> capoot was a 19 year veteran of the force. the head of the san francisco diocese has issued an apology for allowing a registered sex offender to attend a elementary school event last month. he had a letter from diocese when confronted by the police at the parrish. they said it was a mistake to allow him to attend and volunteer at the event. he said diocese policy and no one guilty of child sexual abuse is to be allowed around children. morgan hill police are asking for help as they investigate two rape cases reported within 24 hours. they are look for this man of

san jose, accused of raping an 18-year-old acquaintance. police say it happened on tuesday at on auto repair shop in morgan hill. in the other case officers arrested this man of morgan hill. a 33-year-old woman claimed he kidnapped and raped her wednesday. police tracked him down a few hours later. fans of katt williams are angry friday night over his performance in oakland that abrupted ended when he got into a confrontation with a heckler. he went an tirade at oracle arena. [bleep]. >> well, eventually williams' own security dragged him off the stage. an audience member shared this video of the confrontation with abc7 news. last week oakland police arrested williams after a brawl

vacaville and to the east we are looking at a few light showers east of clear lake, closer to highway 5. that rain and snow mix in the sierra nevada. tahoe valley airport, 35 degrees with some snow but we are into the upper 30s in truckie with some rain. still an advisory above 6500 feet here until 10:00 this morning. temperatures right now in the lower 40s in the cool spots and the north bay valleys. that's where we have the fog. santa rosa, winds are calm. 45 napa. 53 in the city across the bay and 52 san jose. you are right, if you think it feels cooler out there, as much as 14 degrees cooler up in santa rosa. five degrees cooler this morning than yesterday morning in oakland, san francisco and san jose eight degrees of cooling since that frontal pass am. the possibility of a dengering shower this morning. otherwise partial clearing this afternoon. that means we will see some sunshine and showers will return

late tuesday into wednesday. this system looks not as strong as the within we had last night. maybe about a quarter to half-inch of rain. but it does look it it will outf merely wednesday in time for the travel day and giving us a dry end of the work week, including thanksgiving. here's a look at the satellite composite. there's the cold front continuing it push rapidly to the south and east of the bay area. we are looking at pretty decent day today. it will be cooler, but increasing sunshine. so throughout the afternoon we will call it partly sunny around the bay. and in the sierra nevada still snowflakes flying until about 10:00 with only a couple inches down at lake level. most of the activity above 7,000 feet, perhaps a foot there. but the winds will be gusty and perhaps chain controls this the higher elevations. temperatures back home then with breezy conditions. 60 today downtown, as well as san mateo. some upper 50s. 55 clear lake with just 58 half

>> now for more on that deadly shooting in the menlo park neighborhood. homicide detectives have been working all night long on ivy drive where a man was shot to death last night. abc7 news reporter kera clapper is live at police headquarters. what's the latest? >> carolyn, unfortunately the latest is that menlo park police are still looking for those two men and shot and killed another man in his car early last evening. we have this scene. it was a very rainy night. 911 calls began pouring in about 6:30 in the evening. people living near highway 101 and 84 reported hearing several gunshots in their neighborhood. another call came in that someone was lying in the street. menlo park police arrived to the 300 block of ivy drive where an injured man was lying in the middle of the road. the 40-year-old was shot numerous times.

he was pronounced dead at the scene. police say the victim is not from menlo park. they are not releasing any other information about him. his shooters, however, were last seen running away in different directions. >> after the incident occurred, witnesses indicated that they had heard shots and saw two males running from the scene. the only description of the males are two tall males wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts. one was seen northbound on ivy, one westbound on murdoch. we have no other information on the suspects. as investigators continue to look for more information, they are asking anyone with any leads to police contact menlo park police department. reporting live in menlo park, abc7 news. thank you. san francisco-based travel company -- let's go to a different story. this morning at 11:00 oakland

mayor jean quan will be at a slum occasion. the 34th annual memorial service for those killed in the jones town massacre. town officials will take part in memorial service at oakland's evergreen cemetery. it was back on november 18, 1978 when san mateo congressman leo ryan and his legal aid, jacky speer, went to investigate the people's temple cult involving many bay area people under consult leader jim jones. it turned violent. congressman ryan was shot and killed. speer and others were left for dead . then consult members were given cyanide-layed kool-aid. 900 men and women died. speer went on to serve san mateo in congress. now to the other story about san francisco based travel company air b & b. it relies on a community of online users to connect team

the warriors to san francisco in a brand new embarcadero arena. the san francisco chronicle reports union, restaurant and hotel workers are expected to join the building trade unions tomorrow to urge san francisco supervisors to approve plans to build the $1 billion arena. thepo tell workers like the union jobs that could be created at a 13-story hotel. the warriors plan to build across the embarcadero from the 17,000 seat arena. the backing of the influential union adds pressure to approve a deal on the promise of bringing more jobs and more revenue to san francisco. new concerns this morning for raiders fans who are afraid the team might once again relocate to southern california. pasadena is considering hosting an nfl team in the rose bowl. for five years while a new downtown l.a. football stadium gets built. yesterday the rose bowl hosted the annual football rivalry between ucla and usc. the l.a. times reports tomorrow

the pasadena city council will consider bringing the nfl to their city. the pasadena chamber of commerce and others like the prospect of millions of nfl dollars flowing into their city on a temporary basis. but people who live near the rose bowl have complained in the past about traffic and noise and problems caused by rowdy fans. opposition is growing over plans by stores like wal-mart, toys-r-us, sears and target to kickoff black friday deals on thanksgiving night. one target employee from california has started an online petition calling on the stores to give back thanksgiving to employees and their families. now there are more than 40 petitions to save thanksgiving on change.org with more than 238,000 signatures. but experts say when it comes to competition, stores like target are similarly supplying a demand. an appetite for shopping and it's becoming earlier and earlier. nobody wants to come in second

above 6500 feet where a winner weather advisory is still in effect. right now at truckie, rain and 37. winds gusting to 24. at the tahoe airport, 36 degrees with snow. back home in emeryville, low to mid-50s. skies are cloudy. a few rain crops in some parts of the bay. some light mist and drizzle. otherwise the winds are calm. fog is forming and the temperatures are dropping in the north bay. live doppler 7 hd. the frontal passage last night, and with that we saw anywhere from an inch of rain in the north bay to about a tenth around the south bay. so here's a look at what's left of that front as it continues to sag into the central valley. and back home locally just a few light returns north of vacaville. if you are on your way to the sierra nevada, be sure to bring the chains because we are looking at this winter weather advisory. up until 10:00. you will notice the rain-snow

mix and, of course, some very gusty winds there. but we are looking at the snow accumulating above 7,000 feet. right now it's 50 by the delta, as well as concord and half moon bay with numbers dropping significantly in the north bay valleys with low 50s from fremont to mountain view. so, yes, after that cold frontal passage and the calm winds, numbers have dropped off significantly with five degrees of cooling since yesterday morning. oakland and san francisco and five degrees of cooling in los gatos, san jose. and look at santa rosa, 14-degree drop. the forecast then a lingering morning shower is possible. otherwise partial clearing this afternoon. and the showers will return late on tuesday through the overnight hours into wednesday. this system maybe could bring a tenth of an inch to a half-inch around most bay area locations and perhaps more than that in the north bay. so the cold front moved through quickly last night, bringing some pretty good downpours at

times. this next system pretty strong one is going to stay to the north of us. in fact, it looks like some pretty heavy rain throughout much of northern california in the next couple of days. while we will see some partial clearing. even our, treatment north bay counties will be a little bit cloudier. perhaps a slight shower into the early part of the week. well north into sonoma county. we are looking with the snow level dropping to lake level, maybe an inch or two there. temperatures today for the raiders game in and around the 60-degree mark at about 1:00. mid-6 tos by 3:00. 61 palo alto, and we are looking at low 60s for santa cruz, 65 in salinas. the abc news weather seven-day forecast looking at temperatures pretty seasonal. partly sunny tomorrow. a chance of showers late tuesday into wednesday. then we are drying out thursday and friday. the raiders are collecting donations for the alameda county
